End of Season Awards

Explanation of how end of season awards are calculated.

Club records

A Centre Record can only be recognised if a member of the Centre Executive is in attendance and checks the record. Parents on duty must be aware that if is likely that a record is to be broken, a Centre Executive member should be called to verify the result.
A Certificate is awarded to all athletes who break a Centre record.

Age

Children who have reached 5 years of age and not more than 16 years on 31st of December are eligible to participate in the current season of Little Athletics.

Hot Weather

Parents are reminded that Little Athletics is a Summer sport and appropriate precautions should be taken to protect both athletes and parents. These include:

  • Wearing of hats in the open sun and regular application of sunscreen

  • Covering arms and legs, except when actually competing

  • Seeking shade and shelter where possible

  • Regular intake of fluids, especially water.

Extreme HEAT and Inclement Weather

In the lead up to each weekly competition, the Competition Director will monitor the weather forecast to assess the likelihood of adverse weather impacting the program.

Decisions regarding the delay, cancellation or abandonment of scheduled events will be made with primary consideration given to the safety and wellbeing of athletes, volunteers, officials, parents and other attending family members.

Wherever possible, when adverse weather is forecast email notifications will be sent to parents during the days prior to competition stating any known changes to the program start/finish times. Where extremely hot or inclement weather threatens the start of a competition program a decision will be made by 7:45am on competition day (5pm for twilights) as to whether the scheduled program will proceed.

The decision will be made by the Competition Director, or a nominated delegate, in consultation with other members of the Brighton Executive.   If the decision is to NOT proceed or to delay the start of the competition, then the following will occur:

  • We will communicate via Team App, advising of the action being taken and if a competition is not proceeding on any given morning or twilight period

Should adverse weather force the abandonment of a program whilst it is in progress, no communication will be sent to parents as each athlete should have at least 1 nominated guardian at the centre at all times whilst competition is in progress.

The Centre reserves the right to adjust and or modify weekly competition programs at short notice to ensure that adverse weather and ground conditions are taken into account. Wherever possible the Centre will endeavour to provide a program / event of some description which may include running a wet weather program eg a cross country run.

On track

is a modified version of athletics that makes it easy for children to learn the skills of our sport and easy for parents to coach.  Starting with Under 6, the program commences with basic motor skills and progresses through to more complex athletic extension skills.  The program is an action packed, fun filled 30 minutes that has the children on the go the whole time.  Using an extensive range of fun activities, the idea is to teach children the correct skills and techniques of athletics using the enjoyment kids naturally get through exercise.  While it is overseen by experienced coordinators, it's the parents that become the coaches, but don't worry, you'll be taught everything you need to know.  It's easy to pick up and a lot of fun too!

Recording attendances

Little Athletes must have their attendance recorded with their Age Group Marshal on arrival. Parents must ensure that their children are aware of this requirement as each athlete must be accounted for at the end of a competition program. No athlete may leave the park/arena area during a competition program unless under direct supervision. Parents performing duty on the day must report to their designated duty contact.

Spikes

Spikes may be worn by athletes from Under 11 to Under 15 depending on the rules specified in RULE 143 of LAVic Competition Rules

Type of events

The events for each age group change each week, the programs can be viewed from the Season Calendar page.

Uniform

At the 2012 AGM members voted and passed a motion to adopt the uniform (Brighton singlet or t-shirt and navy blue shorts) worn by Brighton athletes at Region and State events as our weekly competition uniform.

Following is some additional information relating to uniforms:

  • The centre crop top cannot be worn at our weekly centre competition and can only be worn at Region and State events.

  • All athletes must have their registration patch and badge attached to their uniforms.

  • Centre uniforms can be purchased from the centre at information days and most competition Saturdays.

Chest patches

Little Athletics Victoria (LAVic) requires all athletes to wear the provided chest patch at all times during Centre activities.  This is a safety and sponsorship requirement.  It allows our centre officials and the parents of other athletes to quickly know your child's name and age group.  In case of accident or emergency the child's name can be accessed quickly.

Parents must detail any medical problems on the registration form and it also recommended that they list these on the back of the Chest patch.

To ensure long life of the patch, it is recommended that velcro be purchased so the patch can be removed without damage and the clothing washed.  If it is lost or damaged, please see the registrar for a replacement.

Athletes without a chest patch may be prevented from competing as they are in breach of the LAVic Competitive Members' membership requirements (section 1.8).

No patch - no points

All athletes must wear their registration patch to the weekly Brighton Centre competitions.

If an athlete competes without their patch then their results may not be captured and they may not receive any points towards their end of season results.

Replacement patches can be purchased from the centre registrar on a weekly basis at a cost of $5 per patch.

No smoking

All competitions and functions for the Brighton Little Athletics Centre are smoke free.
